Still Bedside, But Building

How Nurses Can Start Something of Their Own — One Step at a Time

"Write the vision and make it plain…” — Habakkuk 2:2

INTRODUCTION:

Just because you’re still working shifts doesn’t mean you’re stuck.

In fact, the in-between season — where you’re showing up for patients but also feeling a pull toward something more — is often where God starts to reveal your next assignment.

If you’re a nurse quietly dreaming, praying, and planning something outside of the facility, this is your confirmation:

You don’t have to escape nursing to find purpose.

You just need a model that honors what you carry — and where God is taking you.

1. The Quiet Shift Nurses Are Making

There’s a growing number of nurses who aren’t leaving the field — they’re expanding it.

Nurses who still love to care, but want to do it with more time, more clarity, and more ownership.

They’re not necessarily burned out.

They’re just no longer willing to settle for a system that doesn’t reflect their values.

Whether you’re in long-term care, acute care, school nursing, or home health — you’ve probably felt it too:

  • “There’s more I’m supposed to do.”

  • “I want freedom, but I don’t want to compromise my calling.”

  • “I’m tired of feeling boxed in.”

This is where God often begins a shift — not with noise, but with clarity.

2. What You Can Do While You're Still Bedside

You don’t need to wait for the perfect time.

You don’t need to quit your job tomorrow.

You just need to start — from where you are.

Here’s how you can begin building quietly and strategically:

  • Reflect on who you’re called to serve.

Ask: What kind of client are you most equipped to help? Elderly families? Post-op patients? Moms? Wellness seekers?

  • Define 1–2 simple services you could help others build.

Think: private duty nursing, home care, post-op concierge, CPR training, mobile wellness, doula care, and more.

  • Set up the foundation.

Licensing, business formation, branding, compliance — these are your building blocks.

  • Use what’s free.

Canva for branding, Calendly for bookings, Google Forms for intake.

  • Give it 1 hour per week.

Your pace doesn’t disqualify your purpose.

  • Stay in prayer.

Let the Holy Spirit lead your steps, not pressure from the world.

This is how Kingdom-minded professionals build:

With order. With faith. With focus.

3. Why I'm Personally Building (And Why)

I’m still bedside. But I’m building something I won’t have to clock out of.

What I’m building:

  • A service that helps healthcare professionals launch their own concierge-style businesses

  • A strategy-driven brand that guides nurses through licensing, compliance, and business formation

  • A creative space where I use media and design to help others show up professionally and confidently

  • A business that honors my clinical background and my Kingdom assignment

  • A brand that allows me to serve behind the scenes — equipping others to step fully into their own purpose

I’m not here to chase influence.

I’m here to walk in obedience.

And if that’s where you are too — building with intention, aligning your vision with your values, and trusting God with the process — this is your lane.

4. This Is The Season For Quiet Obedience

Not every vision has to start loud.

Some of the most powerful Kingdom businesses begin behind the scenes:

  • In prayer

  • On breaks

  • After shifts

  • In journals

  • In silence

Just because you’re not visible yet doesn’t mean you’re not valid.

You’re still showing up for patients… but now, you’re also showing up for your calling.

Don’t let the pace discourage you.

Don’t let the timing make you second-guess.

Obedience always produces fruit.
