A Place to Put It Down
A free personal Grief Journal brought to you by the Center for Emotional Education and Full-Time Grievers.
Grief gives us so much to carry – thoughts, memories, questions, anger, longing, love that has nowhere to go.
A Place to Put It Down is a gentle framework designed to help you set some of that weight down — without being asked to fix it, transmute it, or move on.
This isn’t about healing — you’re not sick, you’re grieving. This isn’t about keeping yourself on a timeline, because grief doesn’t have one.
This is about honesty, care, and having somewhere safe for what you’re holding.
What This Is
This is a 48-prompt grief journal for people in bereavement — whether you’re in the early days, the long middle, or well beyond a year.
The prompts offer straightforward ways to:
put words to what hurts
protect what matters – including important parts of your relationship with your person
release some things, if that feels right
and keep other things close, with intention
What This Is Not
This journal is not intended to be:
a checklist for being okay
a gratitude exercise
a way to “get closure”
a demand to share your grief publicly
Nothing here asks you to rush, reframe, or perform.
How to Use It
Go at your pace.
You don’t have to do it in order.
You don’t have to do all of it.
You can open to the page that meets you where you are.
Or start from the beginning and work your way through.
Some pages help you set things down.
Others help you hold them with care.
Both are valid.
