One dress. Two impossible women.

Sophie Renard is a textile archivist in Paris when a donated box arrives from a wartime estate — an evening gown in midnight silk, made with a precision that shouldn't exist. The thread, tested twice, couldn't have been manufactured before 1987. The dress was made in 1943.

Miriam Blum is a Jewish dressmaker in the Marais, October 1942. She is hiding families in her back room, passing intelligence through coat linings, and sewing a dress she cannot explain — forty stitches to the inch, silk that holds the light wrong, a garment that seems to already know where it's going.

When a woman arrives at Miriam's atelier claiming to need a gown for officers' dinners — with shoes that are wrong, an accent too formal, and eyes that recognize the unfinished dress immediately — Miriam knows two things: her name is not Celeste Villeneuve, and she came here for the dress.

"The dress, in the dark, waited."

The Midnight Silk — Chapter 1

The Midnight Silk is a sapphic historical romance about love that refuses the boundaries of time — and two women who choose each other anyway.

Chapter 1 · Paris, 2024

- Sophie

A textile archivist working late in a Parisian archive opens a sealed estate box and finds a dress that cannot exist. The thread is modern. The construction is 1943. The silk holds light in a way she has no professional vocabulary for.

Chapter 2 · Paris, October 1942

- Miriam

A dressmaker in the occupied Marais finishes a coat at four in the morning — a coat with a resistance note sewn into the lining. Then she returns to the dress she is making for no client, in a silk she cannot fully explain, with a stitch count her hands know without being told

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Marina Morgan

I write sapphic romance novels about women who find each other against impossible odds — across centuries, through shadows, in the spaces history forgot to document.

The Midnight Silk is my fourth novel. It began with a question I couldn't stop thinking about: what if the most important love story in your life had already happened — eighty years ago, in a city under occupation — and the evidence was waiting for you in an archive box?.
