Hello!
One of the things I love is to hear a child say, 'Ohhh, now I get it!' and it's especially lovely when that child or young person has been struggling. There's a lot of joy for everyone involved in removing the obstacles that children come across as they develop. What I've learnt over the 50 years I've been a teacher, is that it's often much easier than you think to get them to that point!
I'm looking forward to sharing my tips and insights with you to help you be the best, most confident parent you can be.
You won't be inundated you with emails, there'll just be short and sweet messages to encourage, inform, update and enlighten. There'll be tips on the really good resources I've found and use, many of which are in your home already; how to get your children listening and focused, managing behaviour and working hard at school (when you're not there!)
Thank you for joining me as together we help your child succeed and shine in school and in life.
Guiding your child as they learn and grow in this chaotic world, is an awesome responsibility and I know you want to do a good job.

'The book gets to the heart of the difference between wanting children to just DO something, and actually working with the children to want to do things for themselves, from homework to eating their supper and this is a really useful approach.'
'This book can be a life-changer for many parent (and their children).
I find the brief illustrative case studies very engaging and full of wise words.
Applies to older children too.'

Why do we teach what we teach? What should we be teaching a developing child, about themselves and their future? Why do so many children disengage from school, lack confidence or have low self esteem?
A Short and Simple Book for the Why’s’ puts in a nutshell the messages children need to hear and the tips, reasons and activities that are helpful in encouraging children’s core development, causing them to excel in school and in life.
It's a useful reference for parents who want to protect their children’s enthusiasm for learning.

'I wish I knew what to expect at every age. You should write a book!'
These words from a client got me thinking 15 years ago.
Although I had written 'A Short and Simple Book for the Why's', that was simply to answer my head teacher's question about what I did differently to inspire the children, who frequently transformed in my class. A friend saw my writing, suggested parents might appreciate it and she published it!
After working privately for 15 years, with insights from school teaching alongside insights from inside children's home lives, '100 Things to Learn Before You're 10' was written. It remains a favourite with many parents.
A Little Bit of Background about Gail's experience.
My roles in schools have included class teacher, teacher of the physically impaired, special needs teacher, home tutor, middle manager and senior manager; working with all ages from infant through primary to adolescents and adults. I started in Haringey in 1974 and worked in and around London schools for 30 years.
I created Lessons Alive in 2001, to help children engage and love learning. Until the pandemic, I worked in London, in children's homes but switched to working solely online. I'd already gained experience of adapting my teaching to online when one of my clients moved to Hong Kong and wanted to continue lessons! I now work with international and UK based clients.
I am one of the last teachers to have a Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) with merit, which means I didn't need to get a degree first, but spent 3 years training to teach. I went on to get a Teachers’ Diploma in Management (T.Dip.M), Consultancy Skills for Training and Development Professionals and then registered with the General Teaching Council. I'm also DBS checked.
