Is it just a bad day... or could it be burnout?
A 2-minute self-assessment designed for women who lead.
“A leader is anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes, and who has the courage to develop that potential.”
Brene Brown
For women who lead, stress rarely looks like a dramatic collapse. Instead, it creeps in quietly: broken sleep, dips in energy that come out of nowhere, a fuse that feels shorter than usual, self-doubt that won’t go away, or a cycle that suddenly feels off.
The weight of performance - or being seen performing - and pressure to prove credibility in workplaces that were never built with women in mind, can make it hard to slow down or even admit something isn’t working.
All of this is often happening while she is juggling multiple roles: boss, mother, daughter, friend. With so many plates spinning, it’s easy to dismiss it all: “I’ll be fine, I’ve handled worse.”
And then, from around 35 to 40 the onset of perimenopause changes how stress feels in the body: recovery slows, sleep becomes lighter, focus harder to hold. What once felt manageable by pushing through suddenly feels heavier, less predictable, and harder to ignore and that is before the full complexity of menopause sets in.
This is the layered, often invisible experience of stress for women who lead. And it’s why knowing whether you’re having a bad day or edging toward burnout really matters.
