What does it look like to be a working author?
If I had any idea, I'd be marketing this newsletter differently. After a year of writing drafts, attending workshops, and getting through three major life events, I've decided it's time to finally buckle down and treat my craft like a job. That means figuring out how to sell the books I've written come hell or high slush piles.
Mel, what are you doing?
Learning by doing! This newsletter and the related Patreon will have regular updates as I trial two very different paths to being a published author: traditional and/or self publishing. I'll be logging everything I try and fail at, hopefully with some insight as to why something didn't work. I'll be working with beta readers, sending cold queries, hiring cover artists, and transforming my book buying budget into a book advertising budget (that hopefully gets me into someone else's book buying budget). Maybe I'll learn some Tik Tok dances.
But you're a horrible dancer.
I'm a worse business woman, but it's never too late to learn something new.
What else is in the newsletter?
Book recs! Upcoming releases from writers I love! Submission opportunities and calls for pitches! Dog photos! Whatever else strikes my fancy and seems like a good time for your inbox!
It's only once a week and you can leave anytime. (Remember: there will be dog photos)
