      Frequently Asked Questions

Does the dance team have a “season”?

Dance is a year round sport. If dancers are not performing, they are still training, conditioning, and working to improve their skills in and outside of dance practice.

Summer training and camp is July-August. Fall season is August-November. Winter season is November-February.

What will I do on the dance team?

JV and Varsity dancers will attend & perform at football games, local events, attend summer camp, work on technique and conditioning.

In addition, Elite dancers will represent WHDT in CIAC competitions and possibly have the opportunity to attend other local or regional competitions.

How much of a time commitment will this be?

We like to prepare our dancers for the next level all while maintaining good grades and opportunities outside of dance team. Therefore, we do approximately 4-6 hour weeks in the summer, fall, and winter seasons.

Depending on whether a dancer makes JV, Varsity, or the Elite team will determine how many hours per week they train.  Elite members may have extra hours due to the nature of competitive dance.

What if I can’t do some of the required skills?

Our judges keep an open mind at tryouts.  Try your hardest, but be honest with your current skill level.  We also look for the potential of mastering those skills.

If you would like to score well, you need to be proficient with at least 50% of the required skills.

My dancer does other sports/activities.  How does that work?

We work closely with other coaches and advisors to make a plan of action.  With the right mindset and work ethic, dancers can be involved in multiple extra curricular activities.  If it becomes too much, sometimes dancers will have to make a choice.  We try to help in any way we can!

What if I have a conflict on one of the Tryout days? Can I still try out?

Contact Coach Lizz as soon as possible to make arrangements.
