RECOGNISE AND WORK WITH BURNOUT IN YOURSELF AND YOUR CLIENTS

Burnout recovery is not about doing the right things.

It is about allowing restoration to seep back in to your being.

BEYOND BURNOUT

"Become inclined to watch the way of rain
When it falls slow and free.

Imitate the habit of twilight,
Taking time to open the well of colour
That fostered the brightness of day."

John O'Donohue

Burnout has become a familiar word, yet the lived experience behind it is often complex, confusing and deeply personal. Many practitioners recognise the early signs in themselves or their clients: the gradual erosion of energy, the feeling of being ‘tired but wired’, the quiet sense that something in the system is unable to revitalise. Or we find ourselves dealing with the long term effects of post viral fatigue, masking or corporate / parental overwhelm.

This two-part course explores burnout through the lens of physiology, nervous system regulation and lived clinical experience, offering a perspective on the territory of burnout and how it can be understood within therapeutic practice and beyond.

Across two spacious and informative days we will explore both practitioner burnout and the ways burnout presents in our clients. Drawing on stress physiology alongside somatic and relational approaches, the course will look at nervous system states, lifestyle pressures, stages of life and the subtle ways effort and coping strategies can either support or exhaust the system. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of fatigue and burnout, greater clarity in recognising its different forms, and practical ways of supporting both themselves and their clients.

The need for rest often presents as a quiet voice, calling us to listen to needs we keep negotiating and diminishing.
Rest is the portal for what is really asking to be met - and once we genuinely settle unconditionally into our body's actual capacity -rather than that imposed by the mind's agendas and hopes - it can show us the truth of our needs and reveal the effortless recalibration that comes when we stop pushing and listen unconditionally.

About me

I have four decades of experience in bodywork and bring a combination of practices together into a process of transformational embodiment, resting on the ground of integrative cranio-sacral practice. I am a qualified Humanistic and Integrative counsellor with a post graduate certificate in groupwork and hold a BSc (hons) in Biomedical Science from Kings College London. Within the cranial field, I trained with and taught for Thomas Attlee from 1999 - 2009 both in the UK and Internationally, I also have had the great privilege of studying in person at post graduate level with, among others, Franklyn Sills, Michael Shea, Giorgia Milne, Ray Castellino, Matthew Appleton, Maura Sills, John Upledger, Wojtek Tarnowski and Karlton Terry. I am currently working in private practice both online and from my home in Surrey and as part of a collaboration, ‘Blue Turtle Post Graduate Studies’, alongside Elissa Dell, Monica Anthony and Nora Brennan. Together we draw on a broad range of backgrounds and special interests such as the arts, music, embryology & the human journey into form, brain health & trauma, physiotherapy, working with feet, visionary aspects of cranial work, the archaeology of the soul’s journey and relational aspects of the therapeutic process.
