Why We're Calling
With Governor DeSantis pushing his state as the “blueprint” for extreme immigration enforcement, our own Palm Beach County (PBC) is now deeply entangled in ICE’s network through the 287(g) program. This program allows local law enforcement to act as ICE agents.
Data from the latest Trac Report shows that 71% of ICE detainees have no criminal record.
Take one minute to demand Sheriff Rick Bradshaw withdraw from the 287(g) program.
YOUR SCRIPT:
Hi! My name is ________ and I am a resident of (PBC city).
I have an important message for Sheriff Bradshaw and request that you share this with him. I know the Sheriff must legally support immigration laws, including the 287(g) agreement. Even so, there is a mounting concern amongst the public about the damage caused by our local law enforcement’s cooperation with ICE as local police are deputized to enforce immigration. I believe that the 287(g) program is contributing to mass detentions, deportations and disappearances of people. I, therefore, strongly urge Sheriff Bradshaw to take several policy measures, such as:
Prohibiting racial profiling
Requiring a judicial warrant before honoring an ICE detainer request
And providing public information on the status of all detainees in your jail.
We thank you for the measures you have taken, to date, to protect the residents of Palm Beach County, our community trust, and our valuable immigrant community.
