Does your autistic child have a specific schedule they follow at home? Do they struggle with not having a schedule when you are on vacation? Is that preventing you from planning an amazing family vacation?
I created a visual schedule that can help you and your autistic child be successful while away from home. My visual schedule can be used to show your autistic child what is next on the list of things to do for the day.
Your autistic child will no longer do the following while on vacation:
Continuously ask “What are we doing today?”
Ask “What are we doing next?”
Ask “When can I do xxx?”
Feel overwhelmed because they have no idea what to expect each day
Instead, they will:
Understand they can look at the visual schedule to see what is next - You may need to prompt them the first few times
Know what they are doing next, because they can look at the schedule
Know that they will get to do their favorite activity after they have done the things on the list beforehand
Part of traveling with autistic children includes making sure they have the tools they need to succeed while away from home. My visual schedule is one of those tools.
