NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE PUSHES TO EXTEND TRADING HOURS
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) announced on October 25, 2024 that it plans to extend trading on its all-electronic exchange to 22 hours a day, five days a week (excluding holidays), subject to regulatory approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Regulatory approval can take up to 240 days from the date of filing the application.
Currently, the NYSE Arca equities exchange allows for trading between 4:00 am and 8:00 pm Eastern Time. The extended trading would take place from 1:30 am to 11:30 pm Eastern Time on weekdays (excluding holidays), enabling trading to investors in time zones across the globe.
