Totally Sober October

Rediscover Yourself and a Life You Love in 31 Days

"It's only when we take away the external influences on our psyche that we can truly begin to understand ourselves, our emotions, our needs, and how we really feel."

What is Totally Sober October?

Totally Sober October is a FREE 31 day Challenge designed to help you return to your true nature, tap into your most authentic desires, discover what you need to thrive, and craft a life that fulfills YOU.

To do this, the challenge strips away our most common coping patterns that keep us from the life we want and getting our authentic needs and desires met -- and replaces them with what we actually long for.

During the challenge the following will be eliminated:

  • News (yes, really)
  • Social media (except to create and share meaningful content that adds value to others)
  • Non-purposeful web browsing
  • Mind altering substances of any kind
  • Unnecessary consumption (i.e. we'll be buying only what is necessary)
  • Reading as a tool for distraction (exception being 30 minutes of one audiobook / program / or book per day to complete a current project or our work)
  • Audiobooks, podcasts, or other consumption of similar materials (except in relationship to a specific project that is a current focus)
  • Video games / gaming
  • Television & Movies (except as a social activity with loved ones)
  • Email is limited to work, projects, or nourishing activities only.

*Some exceptions will be made, and you can customize the rules to work for YOUR life. I'll show you how. More specifics are provided in onboarding materials.

This isn't about elimination. This is about nourishment.

We are in a state of constant consumption, most of which brings us no closer to ourselves, our desires, or our creative expression.

This challenge eliminates the consumption of "junk food" content and information for 31 days.

When we eliminate the noise, we make space for something new: that which will nourish our souls, particularly connecting with what we authentically feel called to create and contribute to the world.

How to find and engage with what nourishes us is the essence of this program, and I'll guide you through every step in the included 100+ page PDF guide book.

How will this challenge benefit me?

I'll be honest -- I've never guided anyone through this before. But I spent 30 days in absolute silence (no phones, no books, no nothing) followed by 7 days in complete darkness and solitude in the summer of 2021, and during both, I experienced the most exquisite peace and joy I've ever known.

I believe that's as much to do with what wasn't present -- what we are eliminating during this challenge -- as it was to do with the practices I was engaging in.

And I believe you can have a similar experience. Here's what I intend for you to get from this program, and believe you will:

    • A deep and pervasive sense of peace
    • A sense of incredible relief, a weight lifted
    • A powerful and renewed sense of connection with yourself and your needs
    • Deeper and more loving relationships with those in your life
    • An increased ability to process difficult emotions without numbing, escapism, etc.
    • Enhanced focus and presence
    • Increased desire for life, renewed passion for living
    • Increased sense of vitality (physically, emotionally, mentally)
    • The space to create and contribute to the world in a way you never have before

    Who is this challenge for?

In a world where most people spend around 5 hours per day on their phone (you too -- check your screen time and be shocked), this challenge is truly for everyone.  We are ALL being impacted.

However, this challenge will be especially beneficial to those who:

      • Struggle with feeling overwhelmed and ungrounded in our modern world
      • Crave a safe structure in which they will be encouraged to release unnecessary habits, attachments, and that which no longer serves them
      • Want more peace and ease moment to moment
      • Want to feel more self-led and empowered in their life
      • Desire for more stability in their mind, body, and spirit
      • Have a deep desire to know themselves better on a soul level
      • Have been feeling the need for an internal "clean out" for quite a while
      • Desire to create and contribute authentically to the collective good

      What's inside the PDF Guide?

The 100+ page PDF document I've created is essentially a small book, and is your roadmap to success over the 31 days of the Challenge.

The document is split up into 5 parts and will be sent to your inbox on a schedule in "chunks" so you aren't overwhelmed.

The Introductory Materials will be delivered on sign up, and the rest will be sent on a weekly basis starting on Day 4 of the challenge (i.e. upon signup you will have access to the introductory materials, then you'll be sent Week 1, then Week 2 will be sent the following week, and so on).

Weekly content will focus on 5 key components of the challenge:

          • Days 1-3 - Introductory Materials / "Prepare:" Program overview, the rules, background on the design of the program, and actions to get you ready
          • Week 1 - "Eliminate:" What to expect when we eliminate our coping patterns, tools and strategies for our simplified life, and how to navigate the challenges and temptations that will arise
          • Week 2 - "Rest:" How to rediscover rest, take care of yourself, and nourish your body and spirit.
          • Week 3 - "(Re)Discover:" How to rediscover that which brings you joy, lights you up, and return home to yourself and your true expression.
          • Week 4 - "Integration:" How to return to your "normal" life (or not) and take the lessons of this journey with you moving forward.

In short, absolutely everything you need to succeed.

              FAQ's

I'm interested in joining, but I have XYZ plans that I want to celebrate at. What do I do? Should I just do it later?

This is by far the most common concern of everyone joining, and it's a valid one. For those that have a healthy relationship with substances (alcohol, cannabis, etc.), a glass of wine at a wedding or a spliff with friends is a rarity and something choose because we enjoy it, not to avoid our current experience.

The program is designed to be modified by you in such a way that you can actually do it and succeed. You'll have a chance to modify the rules for yourself and make exceptions in advance if that's the difference between you doing the program vs. avoiding it entirely.

The most important thing isn't avoiding substances, but rather, getting clear on how you might be avoiding your present experience with coping mechanisms. If you don't feel substances are a mode of coping, modify as needed. If you do, really consider sticking to your plans AND skipping the substances.

How is this different from a digital detox / dopamine detox?

Totally Sober October focuses on what can be cultivated (creativity, inner peace, balance, self-awareness, true expression) through eliminating distracting forces and provides a paradigm for how to nourish yourself in a fundamental way.

This challenge is a process of both a stripping away and rebuilding/becoming unlike a digital detox which focuses solely on elimination.

What if I have a serious addictive habit?

This challenge does not prescribe medical advice of any kind and is not responsible for any adverse circumstances that may come from participation.

The number one rule is, of course, to not endanger yourself. I recommend seeking medical advice/therapy to assist you if you desire to participate in this challenge to the fullest extent.

Why are you doing this for free? What do you get out of this?

I created this program for myself because it's what I needed to come home to myself. In part, what I'm getting out of this is the opportunity to deepen the lessons by teaching, but also to do the program right alongside you. I couldn't do it if I didn't create it.

Additionally, one of my deepest values is to make a difference in the world, and I love the chance to share what I've learned. I had so many friends say they were interested in tagging along with this experiment I originally created for myself that I thought I would share it. Money was never the goal.

That said, I will be offering paid support in the form of 1-on-1 coaching and a group container for participants of this program, so there is a financial incentive, but it's not the driving force for me. Contribution is.
