Yes, however if you haven't been a member of a society before the sooner you join an approved society the sooner you fulfil the six months requirement.

Do I have to attend meetings in person?

No you don't have to attend in person because we are an online Society which means all our meetings are held virtually via zoom. You will need to have access to an internet connection and can join using a computer or your phone from anywhere in Australia or Western Australia.

Why should I join when I am already a member of other Societies?

You don't have to! However one of the new issues is you are required to continue to prove you are adding to the body of knowledge surrounding your collection and potential collection. AllGuns Historical Collectors Society provides facilities for you to easily upload and publish your written articles to the public.

I know more than most other collectors about firearms and collecting, how will this help me?

Great, we're looking for people like you. AllGuns Historical Collectors Society's mission is to expand the collectors body of knowledge and we look forward to articles and contributions from people like yourself to help educate new collectors.

NB: We believe in giving full credit to your knowledge and content that you bring to the table.

What is a Student of Arms, and how do I go about becoming a Student of Arms?

The Firearms Act 1973 section 15(4) describes a Student of Arms as "a person who can be shown to have a prolonged and genuine interest in the study, preservation, or collection of firearms".

Our understanding is the requirements to become a Student of Arms under the new Firearms Act (WA) 2024, and corresponding Firearms Regulations 2024 includes: to be a member of an approved society for minimum of six months; you also need to add to the body of knowledge that directly relates to your interest and arms you are collecting. Note this is not comprehensive and further details on this answer will be added as they come to light.

I don't have any collectible firearms yet, why should I join?

You might not have collectible firearms yet however if you have firearms in the family that you would like to preserve/retain and will require a Collectors licence in the future, you will need to have belonged to a Society for six months or more prior to obtain the collectors licence. This allows you to have more than ten firearms across multiple types of licences.
