This year's theme for 'Children's Mental Health Week' is 'Let's Connect'.
Connecting to the world around us is such an important aspect of our lives, one that can have huge benefits to our mental health and wellbeing. This year's theme allows us to look at the important people in our lives, the connections and relationships we have with them, and what factors contribute to us making a connection with another person.
The statistics around children's and young people's mental health at the moment is staggering:
- 1 in 6 children aged 5-16 likely to have a mental health problem
- Statistically, 5 children in a classroom of 30 are likely to have a mental health problem
- The likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50% in the last 3 years alone
- 50% of all mental health problems start by the age of 14
With this is mind, SpeakUp Mental Health & Wellbeing have created a series of activities and resources linked to this year's theme of 'Let's Connect', allowing learners' to understand the connections they have in their lives.
Aimed at KS1, KS2,and KS3 these resources and activities will encourage learners to think about connections they already have, how to create those important connections and what we look for in a person when seeking connections and relationships. As well as connections, activities cover kindness, their 'special people' and loneliness.
