LGBTQ+ History Month takes place every February in the UK and this year, marking it is even more important than ever.
This free resource pack has been created by Rainbow Wise to support educators and professionals in marking LGBTQ+ History Month in a way that is factual, inclusive, and relevant.
We are very aware that LGBTQ+ history might feel like more of a challenging topic this year than it previously has. That’s exactly why we’ve created this pack: to give you clear, unbiased content and information to help you open these discussions and support young people in their understanding.
The resources we've created are designed to be used flexibly across schools, youth services, other professional environments or even at home.
What’s included in the pack?
Inside the pack you’ll find:
A one-page, student-friendly timeline highlighting key moments in UK LGBTQ+ history
An expanded information section for educators, with additional context for each historical event
A history of the evolution of the pride flag
An introduction to other pride flags, explaining what they represent and why they exist
Together, these resources help young people understand that LGBTQ+ people have always been part of society, while supporting respectful conversations about diversity, equality, and belonging.

Is this resource free?
Yes, this pack is free to download and use for educational purposes. You’re welcome to reproduce it for learning activities, provided the Rainbow Wise logo and copyright statement remain in place.
Do I have to use everything in the pack?
Not at all. The pack is designed to be flexible. You may choose to use just one section, or combine resources depending on your setting, time, and the needs of the young people you work with.
Is this resource age appropriate?
Honestly, we advise you to read the resources thoroughly and use your own judgement about age appropriateness for your purposes.
We have included two topics deliberately. The Pride Flags resource is positive and appropriate for all ages, but some of the language in the Historical Timeline references laws with their correct names, which may need to be discussed sensitively.
Is this only for schools?
No, not at all. This resource pack is suitable for professionals working with children and young people in all kinds of settings, including youth services, home education, clubs and groups and other community organisations.
