TAKE ACTION

CONTACT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ON APRIL 10

Thank you for taking a few minutes to take collective action to let your elected official know to pass the legislation that we will be learning about on April 9 and 10.  To complete each call to action, scan the QRCode in the flyer below.

Scroll down for Instructions and Frequently Asked Questions about our call to action platform.

For those writing postcards and making calls, visit Ballotpedia or the NJLCV website to look up the phone numbers and mailing addresses for your elected officials.

Why contact my elected officials?

  • It creates a record: At the Congressional level, constituent management software uses a unique identifier to specially tally our letters, making them the fastest way for staffers to know how many people support your idea. Fewer people engage at the state and local levels, and there are fewer constituents per official, so a little goes a long way. When enough people reach out on the same issue, it signals urgency.

  • It fuels momentum: Every 1 person call or email an office receives = 100 people calling or emailing about the same issue.

  • It holds them accountable: Calling your elected officials in Congress is your chance to hold them accountable—plain and simple. They work for you, so make a habit of contacting them to make your voice heard, and remind them who’s in charge. Silence means you approve of what they’re doing. So yes—contact them.  Politicians rely on voter support. Frequent calls remind them they answer to you, not just their donors.

  • It influences decisions. Lawmakers often prioritize issues that generate significant constituent engagement—sometimes even when they personally disagree.

  • You must include your address so your letter is sent to the specific elected official who represents you.

How do I complete the call to action? (Note: Codes are NOT Case Sensitive)

  • Send Text Message to 50409 with the following text: ‘SIGN + Six Letter Code’

  • You will receive an intro message from ResistBot with Intro Message. You will be asked about the legislative message that you want to send to your elected official.

  • You will be asked to READ the message first or enter YES to move forward

  • Once you enter YES, you will be asked brief questions to know to sign the petition

  • First Name (with confirmation)

  • Zip Code (with confirmation)

  • You will receive a notification that you have signed the letter.

  • You are asked to deliver the letter to your elected official by being asked brief questions

  • Last Name (with confirmation)

  • Salutation (with confirmation)

  • Mailing address (with confirmation) *Needed to find your elected official

  • Email address

  • You will be asked how you want to send your letter.  Pick EMAIL

  • Receive Confirmation that you sent an EMAIL to your elected official.

Once you complete your first action, you repeat the process but with fewer questions because the software recognizes your demographic information.

  • You will receive an intro message from ResistBot with Intro Message. You will be asked about the legislative message that you want to send to your elected official.

Why does the app need my info? What do you do with it?

Elected officials delete messages without information to verify that you’re a constituent; everything we ask for is so we can match you to your officials and deliver your messages in a way that counts. A zip code is not sufficient. Unlike most other campaigns and organizations, we do not sell, lease, or otherwise share your data with anyone.
