Hannah Houdyshell is the illustrator behind Bookish Art. She creates detailed art inspired by nature, life, and imagination. Using watercolor and ink and at times bringing out scissors and scrap paper to create a 3 dimensional feel Hannah draws her viewer in asking them to look deeply and explore her work. There is an element of whimsy, a dash of the macabre and always hidden detail if you are willing to look closely.
The above bird is one of 26 that decorate an 18”x24” canvas. The Common Grackle represented the letter Q with the Latin name Quiscalus Quiscula. The finished piece was displayed at the Short Grass Arts Council’s annual art show in Pierre, SD. Hannah made 4 illustrations of each bird and she is currently playing with how the left over bird’s will be displayed.
A peak at my portfolio
Birds and mushrooms are common subjects in Hannah’s art. Every year she creates a holiday themed collection of illustrations in watercolor and ink to send to friends and family and now she has begun selling her cards at local vendor fairs. She creates one of a kind banners and holiday decor which can be found at her booth or her website.
Original watercolor illustrations and prints are available on the Bookish Art website.
Hannah absolutely loves the challenge of drawing something new and would love to give your ideas a try.
