For anyone inspired to transform trauma as part of our evolving planet, join the journey . . .

Together in Nature

Training Overview

What We'll Explore

This ‘Together in, with and of Nature’ Journey offers a deeply nurturing, experiential development opportunity.

It is for anyone inspired by the transformation of trauma and humanity as part of an evolving planet.

The training will help those who are:

supporting trauma-informed recovery and learning in children, young people and adults;

interested in their own personal development;

curious in how ‘the more than human world’ is an essential part of healthy human development.

You will come away with:

an upgraded approach to story-making through a fluid, somatic sense of Self that is part of the Whole,

an expanded team of allies in the human and natural world,

an outdoor facilitation kit, manual and digital resources for using this approach with others and embedding it in your own life.

We'll journey together through:

Space-Holding

Needs, Behaviours & the Sacred

What is space-holding & when do we need it?

What happens if we don't have it (growing up/older)?

What skills do we need as space-holders?

What archetypes, life stages & transitions call you most as a space-holder?

What is Sacred? How do we experience it?

How can we nurture and direct attention when space-holding?

Story-Making

Story, pattern and character

What are these fundamentals of human perception?

How are they enshrined (or not!) in our home – the natural world.

How does story help (or hinder) our navigation through life?

How do our stories get stuck, small & separated by trauma?

How do we identify Self & Other?

Subtle Worlds

Senses, Somatics & Attunement

How do we get to know our traumatized body?

Do we know our bodies as instruments of connection & knowing?

How do we experience ourselves & each other?

Can we do this more deeply?

Can we experience ourselves IN each other and in nature?

What kinds of support and wisdom emerge as we expand and re-connect our worlds?

Coherence

Evolving, Integrating & Wholeness

How we are supported and mirrored in the natural world?

Can we re-define our sense of Self & other, within a more conscious somatic & relational field?

What kinds of evolving, fluid stories, metaphors & archetypes can emerge from and for us?

How can we co-create stories together for new generations and evolving planet?

Experienced guides map and co-create our trainings.

Sahajo Stewart

GrowFree Trauma-informed Nature-based Community Facilitator

A member since the start, Sahajo is part of the fabric at GrowFree. She has co-facilitated the Fight, Flight, Freeze & Me Course and completed our full 2024 training package. Kathryn Gronkowski

She completed our 2024 training package, and brings experience from nursing, breastfeeding peer support and her love of music and spoken word to curate creative therapeutic outings and spaces for GrowFree members.

Lisa Avery

She now takes this into the ballroom and spreads trauma-informed love in her dance community. She organises outdoor hiking and swimming outings for our members and is supporting GrowFree's land-based projects through her background in environmental research.

Ali McLean

GrowFree Trauma-informed Nature-based Community Facilitator

Having found her voice after a childhood where she couldn’t, it's become a key part of what Ali brings to any space. Coming from the music industry, she now runs singing circles, teaches Kundalini Yoga and has completed our 2024 training. Along with her love of nature-based heart-led song and vocal work, horses guide her journey. She brings all of this to GrowFree.

The GrowFree Model & Community Facilitators

At GrowFree we're always looking to keep our offerings accessible and sustainable.

Our mission is for our trauma-informed resources, courses and peer support to be available to those who need it.

All of our courses and trainings can be taken on their or as part of a fuller package. Together in Nature combines with our Fight, Flight, Freeze & Me and Trauma-informed Peer2Peer courses to form our Nature-based, Trauma-informed Peer & Practitioner Training Package.

Our newly trained community facilitators who completed the training package in 2024 will be supporting the Together in Nature training as apprentices making sure all the materials are ready, participants have any support they need and the meals are delicious. This allows them to go through the journey again at a subsidized rate and with a view to being part of future facilitation teams. This could be you in 2026!

What Have People Said?

Feedback from Together in Nature 2024

It was a truly inspiring, deepening, connecting, attuning and hugely humbling experience. I don’t think I can even put into words just how magical and transformative it was.

Ali McClean

from This Spirit Sings

Incredibly healing, safe, inspiring & warming. I arrived a weary, haggard, battered traveller and left a warrior of peace.

Ethan M P

Forestry Practitioner

What chimed most for me was the session in the woods, moving with the trees and the synchronized walk with another. I came away as someone who feels more in tune with my nervous system and doesn’t have to feel ashamed for sitting listening.

Allanah F

Media Creator & GrowFree Community Peer

I felt gently guided to a very moving deep space – to get unstuck - held by both Jon and Emma and the community. It was deeply trust-building. The mirroring and creative toolkit were most useful and impactful for me.

Bela S

Mother, Midwife, Pregnancy Yoga Teacher, Home Educator & GrowFree Community Peer

Have a Question?

Maybe we can answer it already.

Do I need any specific experience or qualifications?

At GrowFree we know that life experience is more than enough to qualify us for expertise. This will support you to navigate any life experience more smoothly.

The training is also for qualified and experienced practitioners who would like to level-up their knowledge and confidence for trauma-informed, nature-based space-holding, education, therapeutic care and other support.

Are these residential trainings?

The Worcestershire training is being held at a residential venue called Anybody's Barn and as such is designed as a residential training. It may be possible to include some non-residential participants - email Jon to request this.

The Aberdeenshire training is held at GrowFree's home site near Kemnay. There are some accommodation options and camping will be available along with breakfast and dinner, for about £75 or dinner only for £32. The price listed above is non-residential.

What are the timings of the trainings?

Most of the content will be delivered 9am-4pm. However, there will be earlier morning and evening sessions that deepen the integration of material, the embodied experience and our connection as a community.

What will this qualify me to do?

Peer support and peer facilitation are desired and paid roles found in more and more fields. This training (along with our other courses) will support you to access these kinds of roles. Scotland has a national policy aiming for the workforce across all sectors to become trauma-informed. This training will support you to work in this way and our certificate of completion to demonstrate that.

We are considering whether to have our training accredited yet aware there may be a contradiction for us and our values with seeking external validation as opposed to trusting in internal knowing and our own sovereignty. This will be considered over 2025.

Is it for me and my organisation?

Together in Nature is an in-depth experiential training for anyone who holds or wants to hold trauma-sensitive space for themselves and/or others in nature. This could include Yoga teachers, holistic and somatic practitioners, support workers, peer facilitators, teachers, outdoor (and other) educators, health professionals, social workers, doctors, psychologists, parents, childcare workers and all manner of other roles and people.

Participants will come away with a more in-depth knowledge of how our nervous systems inter-relate with our natural (and other) worlds and how we can create and hold spaces that empower, soothe, and support others to tap into the support, guidance, wisdom and resources available. Participants will also leave with a manual and toolkit to support them to share this with others and embed it into their work and lives.

If this sounds like a 'yes' in your body, its for you.

If your organisation seeks to be trauma-sensitive, progressive, body-informed, ecologically aware and sustainable in terms of tapping into resources freely available in nature, then its for you.

Still Prefer to Speak before you . . .
