Master NMM & Ambience in a Weekend
Learn how to make your metallics shine and give your painting to have more emotional impact through the use of advanced painting techniques like ambience and environment.
March 14–15, 2026
The Wobbly Nerdles, Randers, Denmark

Hi there!
I want to invite you to a two-day miniature painting workshop in Wobly Nerdles, Randers where we’ll dive deep into Non-Metallic Metal (NMM) and ambience/reflections. I believe that these are two of the most powerful techniques for creating miniatures that feel alive, dramatic, and like actual believeable characters.
This workshop is designed for painters who want to push their skills further and learn how to make their models read like artwork.

To make the most of our time, we’ll work on a smaller version of Natalia Oracz’s owl from Owlsome Creations. This bust is perfect because it offers wide open surfaces and it's easy to imagine the owl in many different kinds of settings and stories. We're working on a slight smaller version of the sculpt that Natalia has designed with workshops in mind, and therefore the owlhead will be the only head available (not the helmet).
You'll learn how to

Build NMM step by step: From sketching the larger volumes to adding sharp highlights, secondary and tertiary reflections.
Paint with a focus on ambience: How to integrate your bust into an environment and communicate emotions through color.
Balance realism and expression: How to make choices that feel believable but still artistic.
I’ll guide you with live demos, hands-on feedback, and practical exercises to ensure you don’t just copy techniques but understand the why behind them.

The last workshop I held in The Wobbly Nerdles sold out, so don’t wait too long if you want a seat.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to both intermediate and new painters alike looking to finally “crack” NMM and more advanced painters wanting to refine their ambience and storytelling.
Whether you’ve struggled with making NMM look convincing or want your miniatures to feel more atmospheric and alive, you’ll come away with new tools, confidence, and a finished model to be proud of.
Even though these topics may seem quite advanced I want to make the class open to students of all levels. This workshop is designed with a lot of emphasis on 1:1 feedback and guidance. I will spend time with each student individually to ensure that noone is left behind. Similarly, if you're a more advanced painter - I will make sure to challenge you as well!
Your paints, brushes, wet palette, a lamp, some snacks/drinks and possibly lunch. The Wobbly Nerdles sell coffee, tea and some snacks. For more information about lunch please see 'What is the arrangement for lunch' below.
In terms of paints I recommend a good set of primary colors like Kimera, Scale75 or Schmincke. But I urge you to bring the tools you feel comfortable using.
NMM (non-metallic metal) is a technique centered around painting metallic surfaces in miniatures using paints without any metallic pigment. This requires a greater understanding of volume, light and environment.
Ambience is the light in a certain environment. If you've ever struggled with painting a nighttime scene or to paint OSL - you've likely wondered about what type of environment your model is situated in. Understanding ambience and how to use it in your painting will give your works more character, personality and stronger emotional impact with the viewer.
At the start of each day we will make a joint order with café Operaen. This means that we can have lunch ready for our break rather quickly.
If you'd like you're also welcome to bring your own lunch. Lunch is not included in the price of the workshop. And please be aware to clean up after yourself and show consideration for the store.
I'm happy to share my materials with you or you can purchase anything you need to get started painting in the store The Wobbly Nerdles where the workshop is being held.
