November 22-23, 2025

Chromanaut, Copenhagen, Denmark

Hi there!

I’d like to invite you to a two-day miniature painting workshop at Chromanaut in Copenhagen, where we’ll dive deep into the art of painting skin tones with oil paints.

Oils are, in my view, the perfect medium for large areas of skin: they allow you to create subtle variations, smooth transitions, and a natural softness that can be both difficult and time-consuming to achieve with acrylics.

Over the course of the weekend, we’ll explore the unique strengths oils bring to miniature painting learning how to make them work for us, rather than against us.

ABOUT THE MODEL

I’m thrilled to introduce oil painting through this exclusive bust by Thorbjørn Barone. This piece is one of his earlier anatomy studies, making it an ideal subject for exploring skin tones and subtle variations in color.

It’s a rare opportunity to work on a sculpt like this, and I’m proud to share the experience of painting it with you during our weekend class.

The sculpt will never be produced commercially or available for purchase.

You'll learn how to

Use the fundamental techniques most common in oil painting.

Mix and apply a set of varied skin tones from my recommended set of primary colors in oils.

Embrace a different workflow in your miniature painting all together and create stunning realistic skin tones.

I’ll guide you with live demos, hands-on feedback, and practical exercises to ensure you don’t just copy techniques but understand the why behind them.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is open to painters of all levels. Whether you’re brand new to oils or already some experience with the medium.

Your background matters less than your mindset: if you’re eager to learn, curious about trying a new medium, and excited to spend a full weekend focused on painting, this class is for you.

We’ll explore a workflow that’s very different from acrylics slower drying times, more forgiving, and full of subtle possibilities. And don’t worry about materials: the cost of the bust and paints is included in your ticket, so you can simply bring your brushes and focus fully on the process.

If you’re ready to experiment, learn, and push your painting further, you’ll fit right in.

This workshop is designed with a lot of emphasis on 1:1 feedback and guidance. I will spend time with each student individually to ensure that noone is left behind. Similarly, if you're a more advanced painter - I will make sure to challenge you as well!

  • Your acrylic paints (we may use them for underpainting or comparisons)

  • Your brushes - seriously, bring your old ones! Oils use a lot more brushes during a painting session than acrylics! Soft worn kolinsky brushes are great! If you don't have a ton don't worry - bring what you have.

  • Snacks and drinks to keep your energy up

  • An oil palette if you have one (a piece of glass or plastic works perfectly)

  • A small jar with an airtight lid (for thinner)

  • Any oil paints you already own (I’ll provide paints as needed during the workshop, so don’t worry if you don’t have any yet)

The purpose of this class is to give you a clear introduction to the possibilities of oil paints. How you choose to incorporate them into your own workflow afterwards is entirely up to you.

There is a decent kebab place nearby the workshop that we will visit for lunch. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch and store it in the fridge.

I'm happy to share my materials with you and I will provide the paints we need for the class.
