Canadian Pelvic Health OT Task Force

Interest List

A growing movement. A long-needed conversation. A place for OTs who know we can do better in addressing the pelvic health needs of Canadians.

"But OTs Don't Do Pelvic Health"

My journey started back in 2016 when I started to explore the OT role in pelvic health after experiencing the occupational impact of pelvic floor dysfunction myself. When I began asking questions of colleagues and even our professional organizations, the response was painfully consistent:

“But OTs don’t do that.”

And yet, the more I learned, the more undeniable it became:
We can do this work. We should be doing this work.
And we have so much to offer in this field.

Fast forward to 2024: refusing to listen paid off—I’m now running a thriving pelvic health OT practice. Coming home from the OTs in Pelvic Health Summit in Arizona, I was fired up and determined to bring the same energy, community, and vision I saw among our American colleagues back to Canada.

And so began the initiative: educating our professional associations, enlisting their support, and bringing together Canadian OTs who are motivated to change this narrative.

What's coming in 2026?

We’re working to:

  • Build national clarity around the OT role in pelvic health by collaborating with CAOT on a position statement that highlights the value of an occupation-based approach in pelvic health care.

  • Create opportunities for pelvic health education within OT university programs across Canada.

  • Develop Canadian-specific resources and education for OTs interested in practicing directly in pelvic health.

  • Support ALL OTs—across every practice area—to become pelvic-health-informed, with practical tools that fit their clinical contexts.

  • Increase awareness of the OT role in pelvic health within our profession, across interprofessional teams, and among policy makers.

  • Compile and strengthen the evidence base supporting OT involvement in pelvic health care in Canada.

“OTs bring a holistic lens to care, empowering clients to navigate physical symptoms and their impact on identity, participation, and daily life… Without OT involvement, many clients would receive only a fragmented level of support.”

Robyn Murray, Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

“Clients with complex pelvic pain or trauma histories make meaningful progress when OT is involved. Their lens fills critical gaps we simply cannot address alone.”

Jessica Moretto, Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

“OT is not just beneficial in pelvic health—it is essential.”

Renee Quiring, Registered Physiotherapist, Clinic Owner
