INCLUSIVE KETTLEBELL COACH!

Hey There, If you are a coach, bodyworker, clinician or fitness professional looking to learn how to book out your classes and private sessions teaching kettlebells from an inclusive lens without burning out, then welcome to Coaches Corner!

Meet your Coach, Damali Fraiser.

I am a certified fitness professional who brings to the wellness space a unique blend of technical experience with my expertise in physical fitness and exercise. I have 20 years of process engineering, software development lifecycle, project and organizational change management to complement over 10 years in health and wellness as a Kettlebell and Nutrition Coach.

I explore physical strength as an embodiment of the community and have helped 100s of people do the same. I believe the body is a community, each system depends on every other system. When we don't see ourselves represented in our communities it becomes a source of disconnection within our bodies, representation matters.

After the isolation of 2020 more people started to see that fitness does not equal weight loss. Fitness is an essential part of our well-being, it allows us to reduce stress, anxiety and heal from trauma.

It’s my mission to foster a community of Kettlebell Coaches who will lead the industry in making kettlebell training become more accessible. With me as your Coach you won’t just include diverse bodies you will become a coach that considers it fundamental to design and program all aspects of training with kettlebell for every BODY.

I speak at conferences, workshops and corporate functions advocating for an active lifestyle where justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and intersectionality are prioritized as a movement towards self love for every BODY.

Here are some things you might have experienced:

  • You have tried kettlebells and it was a lot harder than you thought.

  • You felt a little intimidated and what you see online is always so intense, you wonder if it can be joyful.

  • Actually, you knew you were doing it wrong so you just decided you’d ignored them.

  • You and some of your clients are larger bodied, they feel awkward with movement like cleans and swings

  • You have a larger body and never see coaches that look like you

  • You are Black, Indigenous, a person of colour and you rarely see people who look like you teaching kettlebells.

  • Some of your clients are non-binary or trans and they don’t feel seen when other Kettlebell Coaches assign strength goals or weights by saying “these are for strong men’ or “these ones are for strong women”

We take a weight-neutral approach to training. All our programming will aim to support your clients personal goals. However, we are clear that there is no presumption that weight loss is a goal or priority. Everybody has different size limbs, some bellies protrude, some hang or jiggle. Kettlebell training at Lift Off is inclusive of all sizes, smallest to largest. We also consider impacts of weight sigma, weight bias and take a health at every size approach to fitness.

We believe that kettlebell training can be a form of weight lifting adopted as an adjunct intervention for trauma. We address the impact of trauma within individuals and within their communities when participating in a movement practice with kettlebells. We also ascribe to the essential principles of Trauma Informed Weight Lifting (TIWL) Trauma Informed Weight Lifting is committed to principles of practice that incorporate anti-oppression and anti-racist frameworks (Do Less Harm) and values as well as trauma-informed frameworks and values (Then Do Good).
