Step away from your screens this summer

And join The Curiosity Club Experiment #1

This is the first of The Curiosity Club experiments – a simple invitation for us to move away from our screens, reignite our creative minds and feel free – embracing that sense of long summer days, running with abandon through long swooshing grass…

This is an experiment. A space to try something out and see what we find, learn or get inspired by.

And a chance for you to reflect on your business and brand.

It’s set up to run over the 6 weeks of summer – if that works for you. You can take as long or as little time as you like. It’s physical and tangible to help us unwind. I’ll be doing it along with you.

To get us away from screens, the noise of email, socials, big opinions and must do narratives.

When you hold something in your hand and pick up a pen, it unlocks far more in your brain.

When you have something physical you can put in on your shelf and use it again and again. This is a tool, not a one time gimmick.

Thinking and defining your brand isn’t a one time thing – it’s an ongoing process and evolution. You can start this summer and return to it again over the winter, spring or even next summer.

Curiosity Club Experiment #1 - A physical set of summer interactions

Experiment #1 is a physical product that will be sent through the post to your address. In order to keep a sense of surprise and delight to fit with the nature of the experiment, I'm not going to share too much about what it is. It does require a small leap of faith.

It will contain 6 prompts for each week of the summer - or whenever you choose to do it. You'll also receive a (postage prepaid) postcard for you to share your thoughts – our postal interaction.

Payment is secure and encrypted through Stripe.

What sparked this idea?

I’ve spent many years trying to refine my own ideas and sense of flow. I’ve learnt to lean into what works for me and my brain and that’s going for a walk, getting outside, picking up a pen or pencil, changing my environment, stepping away from my computer and phone.

Alongside this, I feel a growing unease with the role social media plays in our lives and the uncomfortable intentions of the technology that is increasingly glued to our hands.

Listening to a talk by SmartphoneFreeChildhood was the real catalyst. Acknowledging that the best we can do is model alternative ways to live our lives, it’s our hope against these dominant tech giants. No-one is coming to save us. We have to make that choice.

And making that choice is hard, complex and nuanced. Smartphones make life easy in many ways and can be very powerful tool for a small business like mine.

So this is my first step into ways my business can allow me (and others to step away from my phone more)

I want us to remind that we can interact in other ways. To remember the time before being permanently connected, when we had the patience to wait and daydream, or could just be late.
