Bodynamic® Foundation Training

Character Structure, Developmental Trauma & Embodied Psychology

In person | London

For Psychologists, Therapists, Teachers & Helping Professionals

Bodynamic provides a clear, observable, and teachable framework that integrates seamlessly with existing therapeutic orientations.

As a psychologist or therapist, your effectiveness depends not only on insight, technique, or theory—but on how precisely you can understand what is happening in the client’s system, and how you respond in contact.

The Bodynamic Foundation Training offers a highly structured, body-based developmental model that significantly enhances clinical accuracy, relational attunement, and therapeutic outcomes.

By learning how psychological development is organised through the body—muscle tone, posture, movement, and nervous system responses—you gain access to information that is often unavailable through verbal cognitive material alone.

This training supports you to:

  • Work more precisely with developmental and relational trauma

  • Recognise character patterns as embodied adaptations rather than pathology

  • Tailor interventions to the client’s developmental needs

  • Strengthen regulation, boundaries, and relational safety

  • Improve therapeutic outcomes with complex and treatment-resistant presentations

Not Only For Client Work

For Those Wanting to Deepen Self-Understanding

Alongside its clinical applications, the Bodynamic Foundation Training is also a powerful journey of personal development.

For those seeking to understand themselves more deeply, this training offers insight into:

  • How early developmental experiences shape personality, behaviour, and relationships

  • Why certain patterns feel automatic or difficult to change

  • Where personal strengths are embodied—and where resources may be missing

  • How dignity, boundaries, and connection can be restored from the inside out

This process invites an honest, compassionate look at how your own character structure has formed—and how new choices and resources can emerge.

For many participants, the experience feels both unfamiliar and deeply recognisable: a new lens on something you have always sensed but never fully understood.

What Is Bodynamic?

The Bodynamic System® is a pioneering method of somatic developmental psychology and psychotherapy. Developed through decades of clinical research, it integrates:

  • Psychomotor development in children

  • Character psychology and depth psychotherapy

  • Contemporary neuroscience

  • Somatic awareness and body-based interventions

  • A strong emphasis on healthy relationship, boundaries, and contact

Through a 25-year empirical study, Bodynamic developed one of the most precise and comprehensive models of character structure in modern psychotherapy.

The Character Structure Model & Developmental Trauma

Bodynamic describes human development across seven developmental phases, from the second trimester in utero through the age of 12.

Each phase is associated with:

  • Core developmental needs

  • Specific psychomotor development

  • Character resources and defenses

  • Distinct relational and psychological themes

Character structures are shaped by the type, timing, and quality of nurture and circumstances a child experiences. These structures are not viewed as pathology, but as intelligent adaptations—resources and defenses that once supported survival and connection.

Developmental trauma occurs when a child’s core needs within a developmental phase are persistently unmet (e.g. neglect, rejection, misattunement). This may lead to the loss or inhibition of essential aspects of the self.

The Bodynamic model offers a precise framework for understanding these patterns and supporting repair, regulation, and integration.

What Will You Learn?

The training takes place over seven three-day modules (21 days total). You will learn to:

Understand character structures as embodied developmental patterns

Recognise how psychological history is expressed through posture, muscle tone, movement, and behaviour

Identify hypotonic (early) and hypertonic (later) character positions and their therapeutic implications

Work with developemental trauma in a precise, respectful and embodied way

Read the physiological body and translate it into psychological understanding

Strengthen your ability to offer healthy contact, boundaries and support

Apply Bodynamic techniques to support behavioural change and nervous system regulation

You will also be introduced to core Bodynamic tools, including body-based exercises and relational techniques that can be applied with adults and children.
