Fellow Joymaker. Ready for your joy dose?
You'll now get 3 practical Joymaker tips each week—about igniting joy in groups, relationships, and yourself!
PERSONAL JOY
Turn off your notifications.
Your attention is your life. And notifications, whether text messages or social media dings, are destroying your attention. Don't expect to have rich connections if your attention span is shot.
So what have I done? I've turned off all my notifications and removed the apps from my phone. I also have gray scale turned on. Protect your brain folks.

RELATIONAL JOY
Stop jolting people
I was guilty of doing this for years. I would come in with full intensity—big smile, high volume, maximum enthusiasm. But instead of inspiring people, I often overwhelmed them.
Today, I charge people. I meet them where they’re at and then lift them gradually. I tune in to their energy and go one step ahead. Eventually, we’re both laughing, smiling, and high-fiving.

GROUP JOY
Infect them with joy
When you arrive in a social setting, you have a choice: let the social norms be or elevate them. When I arrive, I introduce myself to everyone, give out hugs and high fives, and start a chain reaction of compliments. Hidden joy doesn't impact the vibe. Public joy does.

LESSONS OF THE WEEK
I started a flash mob in a sauna
This weekend, I stepped it up.
I started a sauna flash mob. Here’s how it went down.
Earlier in the day, I was thinking: How can I make my spa night epic?
The answer came to me immediately: bring party hats and banana suits.
So I arrive with my friend, do a few sauna sessions, and kick off a mini dance party—inviting people to lead moves and wear party hats. Then I stop procrastinating.
Sitting by the fire, I announce the flash mob to everyone around me. I share my vision and explain how special this experience will be. One thing I’ve learned about getting people to join in: remind them that this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Life is temporary.
Outside the sauna, I guide people through a towel dance. Everyone grabs a towel, and I show them the moves we are going to do in the sauna—which, by the way, is packed and the music's bumping.
I put on my banana suit, my cowboy hat, and sunglasses. I step into the sauna and stand silently in front of about 30 people. Then I introduce myself: “I’m the banana from Canada.” Everyone starts laughing. Then, I ask a simple question: "What’s more important—looking good, or creating joy for the people around you?"
I ask everyone to stand up and get their towels waving. They do. Soon, they are waving towels at each other. Next, I invite them to spank themselves with their towels. Then, I encourage them to playfully, consensually hit each other with their towels. Towel battles.
Everyone is laughing, smiling, and connecting in the sauna! The final step: we raise our towels above our heads, waving them and cheering. The whole experience lasts about five minutes—but it is exhilarating.
A few people were skeptical at first, but they came around. And that’s the nature of group dynamics: some resist initially, but once they see others having fun, the joy becomes contagious.
The main takeaway: give people the right context to participate. By asking a question like “What’s more important—looking good or creating joy for others?” I frame the experience as a generous act toward others. People need the right reason to join in. When you provide that context, you can get people playing any game you want.
Another takeaway: model goofiness. I enter the sauna in funny outfit. By introducing myself as “the banana from Canada,” I disarm the room. People aren’t intimidated—they are laughing and smiling.
When you embrace your own messiness and imperfections as a host, others feel safe to do the same. Don’t try to appear like the highest-status, most attractive person in the room—it only works against you.
As always, shine bright and step into your inner Joymaker this week!
