Grow Your Own Herbal Garden Workshop

Learn to grow and use 10 medicinal herbs in a hands-on,
personalised workshop - from garden to remedy

with Laura - third generation herbalist - from Yarrow Lane Herbs

A practical, hands-on workshop for anyone who wants to grow their own medicinal herbs - whether you're a complete beginner or already growing and want to learn how to use your harvest.

Are you tired of buying herbal teas and remedies and know you could grow them yourself? Want to start a medicinal herb garden but don't know which herbs to grow or how to use them?

This workshop gives you everything you need. You'll learn to grow 10 medicinal herbs that thrive in Irish conditions, set up a no-dig herb garden, and discover how to harvest and preserve your herbs.

Then Laura will teach you how to turn your harvest into tinctures, teas, and balms - practical skills you can use at home.

What You'll Learn

In this intimate 5-hour workshop, John + Laura will cover:

  • How to set up a no-dig medicinal herb garden

  • 10 easy-to-grow herbs perfect for Irish conditions (Chamomile, Peppermint, Lemon Balm, Calendula, Thyme, Sage, Yarrow, Rosemary, Echinacea, Oregano)

  • How to harvest and preserve your herbs

  • How to make tinctures, teas, and balms from your harvest

  • Personalised advice for your specific situation

How It Works

John will show you how to set up a no-dig herb garden. You'll learn about soil, spacing, and the growing needs of each herb. We'll talk about the 10 herbs you'll be growing - what they need, when to plant them, and how to care for them.

Then it's hands-on. You'll help set up sections of the herb garden, getting practical advice on how to do the same in your own space. Big plot, raised bed, or pots on a patio - we'll show you what works.

After a break, Laura takes over. You'll learn how to harvest, dry, and preserve your herbs, and how to make your own tinctures, teas and balms. You'll leave with practical skills you can use at home.

The workshop was brilliant. I would highly recommend Master My Garden workshop. John is so passionate about growing and his enthusiasm around making growing easy and accessible to all was very infectious. I was a complete beginner before partaking in the workshop. I felt confident after leaving the workshop to start my own growing journey. This workshop is suitable for beginners and those already established as growers. I learnt so much from others at the workshop also when different issues regarding growing were troubleshooted.

The 'Master My Garden - Grow Your Own Food Workshop' is one not to be missed! As an absolute beginner starting out on my journey, John provided me with all the knowledge, know-how, and more importantly the confidence to take my first steps of growing my own vegetables! John's expertise and knowledge means that you, whether starting off like myself, or a seasoned gardener, will not be disappointed. The ease with which John was able to tailor the theory and practical part to everyone's individual needs was so impressive. If you are struggling with growing your own vegetables, or wondering where to start, then this workshop IS FOR YOU!! Thanks John!

About John

John has worked in the gardening industry for 30 years and knows what works in Irish gardens - because he's made all the mistakes himself. He hosts the weekly Master My Garden podcast and runs these workshops from his Garden in Co. Laois near Carlow town, where he grows and tests everything before recommending it.

Growing up between his father's farm and his mother's garden, with grandparents on both sides who were brilliant growers, John's been surrounded by gardening his whole life. Now he's passing on what he's learned - minus the trial and error you don't need to do yourself.

About Laura

Laura is a 3rd generation herbalist - grew up watching her gran work with plants, filling cupboards full of mysterious bottles and homemade remedies - so plants have been part of her life in one way or another since she was born.

She founded Yarrow Lane to pass on the knowledge of our own local plants that our ancestors used. She is passionate about making herbs accessible to all and helping people to learn to love the weeds again! She's a big fan of common weeds - the ones you can actually find outside your door - and has been described as "ridiculously generous with plant knowledge."
