FAQs
About the Game
Hexblem is a competitive adventure board game for 1–4 players with fast, highly replayable sessions. You explore a modular world, grow stronger (loot, essences, treasures, levels), and adapt to whatever the game throws at you—building tension all the way to the final showdown: the Unbeatable.
The main mode is competitive: only one player earns the glory if the Unbeatable is defeated. That said, if your group likes a “party-coop” vibe, you can team up informally to survive… and then betray each other gracefully at the end. Typical length: ~30 minutes per player (varies by difficulty and table pace).
The App
For the full experience, yes—it’s part of the design. The app guides play, runs narrative Adventures, triggers global events, scales difficulty, reveals when/where the Unbeatable appears, and unlocks new content as you play. There’s also a simplified no-app mode, but it doesn’t show Hexblem at its best.
The App updates will grant you free new content and unlocks more about the story the more you play!
One phone is enough for the whole table (bigger screen = better). You don’t need internet to play after downloading—only for updates. We don’t store or share any user data: zero.
Setup and Learning
No. The app walks you through the first game step-by-step from the moment you open the box. The rulebook is there for edge cases and quick reference—not as a barrier to playing.
Both. Casual players get a guided, clear flow and objectives. Hobby gamers stick around for the tactical resource management, risk/reward decisions, asymmetric characters, and the way every session forces you to come with a new plan.
How It Plays
Games alternate between Exploration and Management rounds. In Exploration, you “attack” the deck of the Hexblem you’re currently in: pick a card and resolve an Event (instructions), an Enemy (combat), or an Adventure (app-driven narrative with choices). In Management, you optimize quickly—resources, gear, essences, and leveling.
Adventures are multi-step narrative scenes: choices, alternate paths, and story fragments that change how you experience the world. “Unlocking” means the more you play, the app opens up new Adventures/variants/Unbeatables and options—without needing to buy extra content.
Maps, the Hexblem, and Replayability
Because the map and pacing shift every game—routes, threats, rewards, and events won’t line up the same way twice. Replayability isn’t just “more cards”—it’s being pushed into different decisions every session.
A Hexblem is a distinct world/biome with its own factions, enemies, characters, and story. Each game you choose 3 out of the 4 core Hexblems.
Characters and Progression
Yes. Each character has unique stats and abilities that support different play styles (aggressive, efficient, opportunistic, etc.). Character choice isn’t cosmetic—it defines your approach.
You gain loot, channel essences, equip treasures, and level up as the game progresses. It feels like a “compressed RPG”: within a few turns, you’re already doing things you couldn’t do at the start.
The Unbeatable and the Ending
The Unbeatable is the main threat that emerges as the game escalates: the app increases difficulty and signals its arrival. If the Unbeatable is defeated, glory goes to one player; if not, nobody gets it… though you can still aim to be “the richest in the graveyard.”
If you want to truly win, yes. The real skill is timing: how much you farm vs. how early you prepare, so you reach the finale ready—without falling behind.
Micro-Expansions and Difficulty
They’re optional modules that change rules/pressure without bloating playtime. You can combine them, but the best path is to scale up: base game → one module → combinations once your group is comfortable.
Yes. Difficulty is adjustable in the app with a single tap, so the game stays tense even after you’ve learned it.
Solo and Player Scaling
Yes. Solo play keeps the adventure and pacing intact. At 2–4 players, the pressure curve and the Unbeatable timing scale so the game doesn’t lose momentum.
Gamefound
Because it’s built for board game crowdfunding: it supports transparent project pages, direct communication with backers, feedback, and strong rewards for early supporters—through a campaign system that’s proven in the hobby.
You’ll be notified when we launch—and if you back in the first days, you can claim an exclusive promo card pack (depending on the early-backer offer you activate).
