The Master medicines

Rose as medicine
Rose has long been revered as more than a flower. Across traditions, she is a symbol of beauty, devotion, tenderness, and sacred strength. Yet those who work closely with Rose often discover that her medicine is far deeper than symbolism alone. She teaches through softness, precision, and emotional truth, opening pathways into parts of the heart that have long been guarded. To walk with Rose is to enter a relationship with a plant ally that does not force healing, but gently invites it. Her presence asks for receptivity, patience, and honesty, often revealing that softness itself can be one of the strongest medicines available.
Rose has the highest vibration of any plant on Earth, operating at 320 MHz, which is the frequency of love, emotional intelligence, and spiritual connection. Through this resonance she allows us to meet different parts of ourselves through her multifaceted medicine. This can be challenging when you want softness but she brings up hidden anger stored in the body. Rose gives voice to that which is ignored, suppressed, and protected by allowing it to surface through the stem, thorns, and petals. Her mysterious nature invites us inward, asking for bravery in meeting the Self with compassion, even when challenging aspects arise. She is resourceful and ambidextrous in her ability to stand by us as a true ally. Rose is considered a "Master Plant" that can be dieted on its own for medicinal and spiritual properties such as, alleviating grief and heartbreak, strengthening boundaries, connecting with the Divine Feminine, releasing trauma, soul retrieval, opening up to unconditional love. We will be working with a local wild rose variety.

Huachuma
The heart-opening medicine of the Andes has many names among the various communities, including Aguacolla, Achuma, Gigantón, Wachuma, Huachuma, and San Pedro. Known as one of the oldest sacred plant medicines on Earth, with ceremonial use and cultural significance for over 5,000 years, dating back to the Chavin, Nazca, and Moche civilizations. It is revered for its medicinal and spiritual properties, with a wide variety of uses from common ailments to deepening one’s connection with nature.
Huachuma is known as the “heart opener” due to its ability to break down the barriers put in place between the self and Pachamama/Earth, our connection with nature, and each other. This sacred cactus asks us to reexamine our relationships on all levels, and to open up to the memory of the land, water, and elements all around. Rather than blasting us open, Huachuma grounds us in the embodiment of the senses.
It has also been called the “plant of immortality”, living thousands of years, recording the seasons on its body, and due to its connection with the cosmos, sun, moon, and starlight shown in its shape and medicinal qualities. Huachuma is a medicine of connection, known for activating the heart, expanding compassion, and deepening one’s relationship with nature. It is also used for alcohol addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, joint pain, parasites, and gastrointestinal issues. Imbibing this magical being allows for deep healing and spiritual alignment to take place.

Temazcal
The temazcal is a traditional sweat lodge used primarily by indigenous peoples of Mexico and Central America. In Mesoamerica, the temazcal has been used for thousands of years by Mesoamerican civilizations for therapeutic purposes, purification rituals, and overall health.
Symbolically, the temazcal carried deep meaning as well. It was associated with the womb, as the experience of entering and exiting the structure represented a spiritual and physical rebirth.
Its traditional design is a small circular or dome-shaped structure, built from materials such as clay or stone. Inside, volcanic rocks are heated over a fire, and once they reach the right temperature, water infused with herbs is poured over them to produce steam. To this day, the temazcal remains a living practice in many regions of Mexico. It is considered a sacred place where healing rituals, purification, and personal growth are celebrated. Ceremonies include prayers, chants, and the guidance of a spiritual leader who directs the session.
In short, the temazcal represents the union of body, mind, and spirit - a place of purification and rebirth that is deeply connected to nature and the cycles of life.

The location
The retreat takes place in Santa Catarina Lachatao, a small Zapotec village nested in the mountains of Oaxaca's Sierra Norte, at 2,100 metres above sea level.
