The story of the lamp post:

I love this image because it reminds me of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The Narnia books were some of my favorites as a child and this lamp glowing from underneath snow-covered branches made me think of the lamp that Lucy finds when she steps into the magical world of Narnia. She made an unexpected friend (Mr. Tumnus) and started a war (oops) that would free Narnia from the evil queen who was oppressing them (yay!). When I saw this street lamp, I felt like I was entering Narnia.

While this lamp did not take me to a magical land, it did provide a magical moment. That is one thing that I hope to do with this devotional meditations series. I want to highlight the magical moments I find in each season of the year, preserve them in memory, and share them with you. I want to look for the Divine in the every-day, ordinary spaces in our lives. And I want to find out what adventures await beyond the lamp-post. Doing this will be an act of worship, as God is the one who makes the magical moments possible.

This image brings back that sense of joy and wonder every time I look at it. It reminds me of the amazing possibilities this world has to offer, and the magic of human imagination. I hope that this image will bring you joy as well.

Until next Wednesday,
