Our Good Cause

Words by Diana Freeman, wife, mother of two young girls, and in remission after 6 months of chemotherapy:

"Surviving cancer is not just clearing your body of the disease, it is healing the body while battling the fears and emotions that come with it. And to survive, it starts with having hope.

For many, the seed of hope is first planted by the Cancer Care Clinic at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC).

Thanks to:

  • The incredible, caring doctors, nurses and staff.

  • The availability of resources to act quickly.

  • The accessibility to all the tests and resources needed, under one roof.

  • The security of knowing a team of healthcare professionals are dedicated to your case.

  • Having access to someone to answer any questions or concerns 24/7 – without judgement.

  • The consistency of a treatment plan and the reliability of how the clinic is managed.

  • Access to quality care, close to home.

Our local cancer clinics do SO MUCH more to instil hope in their patients. This is only a sample – but the point is, it starts with them, and together we can strengthen the hope they generate by supporting their efforts."

Kate Isaac and Sienna Malcolm

My 'Why'

Hi, I'm Kate Malcolm 👋

I've lived in Port Perry for 8 years since moving here from the UK in 2017. My husband (Isaac Malcolm) has lived here his whole life - You might know him as the Owner/Operator of Overridge Fireplace on Casimir St.

In July 2024, we suffered the unimaginable loss of Courtney Adderley from Greenbank ON - a wonderful wife, daughter, friend, and mom to three beautiful young children - after an unfair fight with cancer. And she is not alone in her suffering.

Many of my dear friends, family, and acquaintances have received the shocking diagnosis of cancer in recent years, and you can often feel powerless when wanting to offer support.

I decided to put my digital skills to good use and unite residents and businesses together to give back at a time of such uncertainty and grief.

I've seen firsthand how incredible our local communities are when help is needed.

I know our residents and businesses have valuable knowledge and fun skills they could share with and teach others.

And I've heard inspiring stories from patients who've greatly benefited from the cancer care clinics available through Lakeridge Health and Peterborough Health Centres.

So the idea of the SkillSwap was born!

It's taken nearly a year of working around my busy toddler and harassing (sorry) local businesses to send me their amazing videos - But it has all been worth it. The SkillSwap library is PACKED with value, and I can't wait for you to dive into all the lessons.

Thank you for your support - Let's raise some serious money!
