Holiday Burnout is Real!
What to do when there's no time for you.
The antidote to stupid New Year's resolutions that don't help.
Prevent burnout when you can't find time for you
Do your find yourself running on empty every time the Winter Holidays come around? You may find yourself stressed out, sick, and spiraling, which leads to stuffing yourself with sugar and alcohol just to get through.
When New Year's Eve comes along, you feel like you HAVE to make New Year's resolutions to rein yourself back in. All that holiday food and stress leaves you feeling like crap. Maybe this year, when you start again on New Year's, your habits will stick. 🤞
Unfortunately, resolutions usually fail within a month because it is too much change all at once. With shame and willpower driving your behavior, it's sadly a recipe for failure. Willpower only takes you so far and shame is a horrible motivator. Punishing yourself with exercise and restrictive diets causes more harm than good in the long run.
It's lose-lose.
What if you could take better care of yourself before and during the holiday season, without feeling completely overwhelmed?
What if you could do something supportive for yourself so you don't feel the need to numb yourself with sugar and alcohol?
When you make small improvements to your habits, they are more likely to stick. When you improve how you feel, you are motivated to continue!
Plus, if it only takes 15 minutes, it's totally doable, even with your already full schedule.
15 minutes is better than zero minutes to improve how you feel.
Three 15 minute classes each week to "fill your cup" so that you feel capable of handling everything the holidays throw at you!
The Winter holiday season can be a crazy time with cooking, travel, and taking care of everyone but yourself. Adding one more thing to the to-do list can feel daunting, especially when there is so much to get done.
Making time for yourself is often the last thing on the list, but a few minutes for yourself can make all the difference between feeling confident and burning out. You don't need to move your body for an hour, it's amazing how much better you feel after only 15 minutes!
"It's time for a big "I told you so!" I just did my first 15 minute yoga practice. In my mind, 15 minutes isn't enough time to even get moving! Wrong. Thank you, Janine. Much like meditation, I will now grab it when I can, even if it's "just" 15 minutes." ~Judy C.
Don't let this holiday season fuel your anxiety. Take back control over your mind, your body, and your schedule!
Who am I?
Hi, I'm Janine, owner of Purple Room Yoga
As a 53 year old woman, who spent the first 2/3 of her life putting everyone else first, I know what it feels like to run on empty. When you are empty at age 20 or 30, you can recover quickly, but once you're over 50, it is a slow slog back to feeling somewhat normal.
Purple Room Yoga is an online yoga studio for active adults over 50 who want to stay active for the long haul. Sometimes that means slowing down, sometimes that means kicking things up a notch. This is why I have continued to practice yoga for the last 30 years: yoga has taught me to meet myself where I am.
During the Holiday Burnout Solution, you will give back to yourself so that you feel strong and nourished through the whole season. Don't let burnout get you down. Stop it before it starts! Move your body to let go of stiffness, feel more stable on your feet, and feel strong and capable through the season. Establish quick exercise habits to sustain you into the new year and beyond.
There is no need for drastic New Year's resolutions. Take care of yourself now and feel grounded and healthy going into 2026!
