Service Patterns UK
A grass-roots network for people working with service patterns across government and the public sector.
What are Service Patterns?
Across the public sector, people often need to do the same things — like apply for something, book an appointment, or tell an organisation about a change. When we share and reuse the best ways to do these things, everyone benefits. Service patterns help us capture what works, so teams can build complete end-to-end services faster, learn from each other, and create better experiences for the people who use them.
Make sense of what you already do
Service patterns help you identify the core tasks that are repeated across your organisation, making it easier to talk about what you offer now and spot opportunities for improvement.
Build faster by re-using what works
A library of service patterns can organise reusable components, existing research and direct you to similar services, so you're not starting from scratch every time.
Give users a more consistent experience
By reusing tried and tested designs, users will have similar experiences across different services. That means less confusion, fewer surprises and a more reliable experience.

Where can I learn more about service patterns?
Service patterns are an evolving topic with different organisations taking slightly different approaches meaning there is no single definitive authority on them, but here are a few blogs we recommend to find out more:
