Led by Spencer Welch
The IVA teacher training program helps voice teachers to identify elements of singing as “tools” which have the power to encourage the vocal mechanism to perform in particular ways. In this class Spencer Welch will talk through the various “tools” that voice teachers can use to encourage better vocal fold phonation, registration and resonance strategies.
Led by Linda Tomkinson
The various ways vowels can be pronounced when singing can greatly impact the resultant sound. Modifying vowels can help singers to create resonance and registration strategies to match the requirements of the song. In this practical class Linda will work with two singers, demonstrating how small adjustments of the vowel can benefit the sound in a big way.
Led by Heather Baker
Singing is a pastime that everyone should be encouraged to participate in, but what if someone struggles to sing in tune?! In this class Heather will briefly explain the processes required to match pitch, and then delve into an array of approaches to help singers to develop their ability to do so.
Led by Stephanie Borm-Krüger
A finished vocal is often easier to achieve through the use of “unfinished” or exaggerated sound qualities which can encourage changes in vocal fold phonation, larynx position and registration. In this class Stephanie will explain and demonstrate some of the common “unfinished” sounds that voice teachers can use to help singers achieve their goals.
Led by John Henny
Do the concepts of Harmonics and Formants in singing feel like an alien language?! This class will break down these concepts in an accessible and easy to digest manner! John will explain exactly what these concepts mean and why voice teachers may or may not need to understand them in depth to achieve success in their teaching.
Led by Kerrie Obert
Do you know your nodules from your polyps?! In this session Kerrie will explain some of the common medical issues that can affect the voice, what they look like, how they are diagnosed and how they might impact the singing voice.
Led by Andreas Grussl
In this class, you will be introduced to how spectrogram software like Voce Vista works and how it can be used as a tool to help you analyze certain functional elements of the voice. You will learn what to look for and how to interpret what you see.
Led by Tom Miner
How do people stand out in an increasingly noisy world? With the rise of generative AI, ever-changing social media algorithms, and growing competition for attention, building a personal brand that drives your vocal teaching career forward seems daunting. But, what if we told you we are on the verge of a golden era for "Soul-cial media" creators and brands? In this provocative presentation, Tom Miner reveals what's changing for those building powerful personal brands online, where the biggest opportunities can be found, and how to win in a world that is starved for meaning and authenticity.
Led by Renee Maranan
In this class Renee will demonstrate how voice teachers can listen to and analyse pop performances to identify the stylistic elements singers use. Participants will then be shown how this information can be applied to a singers performance during lessons. This will be a highly interactive class with plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Led by Megan Yates
This class will show teachers how to prepare singers for Musical Theatre auditions. Megan will break down the key elements required to help singers feel confident and prepared when heading into an audition, and what you can do in lessons to help them to achieve this.

Annie Little, Studio City, USA
In 2013, the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA) was founded by nine singing teachers who shared a passion for singing and helping others find their voices. Our goal is to make the best and most efficient training in singing available to everyone and further the development of vocal pedagogy. We believe by doing so, we contribute to making the gift of song available to as many people as possible.
Over many years, we've developed effective methods for training singers and singing teachers. Our programs help singing teachers understand how the voice works and quickly diagnose and fix problems in the voice.
We work from the singer's perspective and consider the voice to be one system consisting of individual parts that every singer needs to learn to coordinate.
