Signs you need a break

  • Overworking: You feel overworked and overwhelmed with the amount of work you have to deal with daily. You neglect your own well-being. 

  • Overextending: You keep helping and doing things for others even if you don't have time nor energy. You have porous boundaries. 

  • Overstimulated: Either by the mental workload, social interactions or by consuming (social) media. You don't allow yourself to take a break.

  • Overthinking: Thoughts about plans, worries, people, money keep spinning in your thinking mind. You're ungrounded and stuck in the head engaging in heavy emotions that are triggered by the overthinking loop.

  • Overplanning or a sense of falling behind: Trying to keep up or needing a solid sense of safety signifies a fear of losing control.

  • Exhaustion: Most common either mentally or physically due to lack of quality rest and the belief that you're not deserving of rest if you don't take care of the to-do-list, kids, emails, etc. Can include being short on sleep and feeling constantly unrested.

  • Frustration: Because of the reasons mentioned above which can turn into anger, withdrawal and unhealthy habits to induce instant gratification or procrastination.

  • Emotional eating: Eating either too much, too unhealthy, too sweet, too fatty and/or too salty or the bare minimum to keep the body fuelled enough.

  • Addictions: Can include substances, shopping, sex, adrenalin rush, gambling, doomscrolling, eating, striving to feel a certain way, etc. Addictions are an expression of traumatic wounds that are activated when feeling unsafe in the body. It's a way to soothe our nervous system.

  • Self-criticism: Signifies discontentment and unhappiness which is supported by the underlying belief that you're never good enough no matter what you do (or not do). You experienced being criticized and were exposed to anticipated judgment in the past.

  • Self-doubt: Is the result of being unsure of what we really want and so we question our choices and make decisions based on what we THINK other people would EXPECT us to do. Underlying emotions can be: fear criticism, judgment and rejection

  • Lack of motivation/drive: Comes from being out of alignment with our purpose. What we're doing doesn't spark joy and is deeply unfulfilling. We cope but don't thrive.
  • Confusion: Is a sure sign of us needing rest. With a confused mind we deny ourselves access to gaining  awareness of the situation we're in and so we keep TRYING to find solutions which doesn't lead to fulfilling nor successful outcomes.

Being out of alignment has consequences

These are all coping mechanisms that we have been taught or we have created ourselves to deal with situations. When we're out of alignment, we're out of touch with our emotions, our body and our energy. We're unaware of how our intuition communicates with us. Instead, we're more committed and attached to stress, our circumstances, and making everything work.

  • Consequences
    • we're unhappy
    • we feel unfulfilled like something meaningful is missing
    • we have surface-level relationships
    • we keep striving for money and status
    • we're deeply unsatisfied with ourselves and our material possessions
    • we have an inner sense of discomfort and disharmony
    • we're easily agitated
    • we have a lack of confidence, self-trust and live with a lack consciousness
    • we stay unaware of our actual potentials, possibilities, opportunities
    • we fear taking aligned action and hide in the comfort zone instead
    • we avoid growth, uncomfortable conversations, speaking our truth
    • we miss out on building meaningful connection
    • we keep others happy and playing small
    • we're unhappy with job, partner- and friendships, career, life
    • we perpetuate toxic, detrimental and negative patterns, behaviours, fears and mindset
    • we keep committing to distractions
    • etc.

  • This can show up as 
    • anxiety
    • shallow breathing
    • chronic pain in the body
    • allergies
    • panic attacks
    • insomnia
    • apathy
    • depression
    • digestive issues
    • migraines
    • having obsessions
    • skin irritations
    • difficulties communicating our needs
    • getting sick during periods of stress
    • rushing through the day 
    • strained partner- and relationships
    • being prone to conflicts or
    • avoiding them altogether
    • looking for love and fulfilment in all the wrong places
    • attracting misaligned people and situations into our lives
    • repeating old patterns
    • continuing to do what's unfulfilling but having no motivation to take the required steps to shift out of this current reality
