Hello, my name is Bec Oakaiah.
Who am i?
I am a woman, mother + holistic birthkeeper.
I live just outside Dorchester in a small (accidental) homeschooling community with my little family and I am obsessed with supporting women to claim their sacred births at home, on their own terms.
I offer bespoke, down to earth, practical + emotional doula support for you & your whole family from pregnancy through to postpartum with a bridge to earth led wisdom + spirituality.
I have supported hundreds of women inside + outside of the birth room to claim their incredible births and I am passionately devoted to the reclamation of spontaneous physiological birth, as nature intended.
I am also a seasoned masseuse, teacher, speaker + writer specialising in the liberation of birth, the remembrance of ancient wisdom, rite of passage and earth knowledge.

How do I work as a birthkeeper?
I am here to support you and your partner, unconditionally throughout your journey of pregnancy through to early parenthood. Birth is unpredictable and throughout the journey, you make come up against so many opinions, projections from family, friends + health care professionals (HCPs) and if you're journeying through the NHS you may see a huge range of HCPs which can feel really overwhelming and unsupportive at such a pivotal + sensitive time when continuity is the gem.
I will be your staple constant throughout. We will build a trusting relationship upon the foundations of gentle foraging walks, empowering birth conversations, fireside chats, food sharing, loving sisterhood + hands on body nourishment. It is hugely important to me that I get to know you as a woman, a couple + family to I can truly offer a completely bespoke service to you + support you to explore all the missing pieces that may stand between you + your dream birth.
Ritual is a hugely important piece of birth and right of passage which has become lost within our culture, I bring ritual into every aspect of my work as an option to support you on your journey.
I want you to have the most incredible birth experience which is why I don't altar or change my birth package. Every woman deserves to feel deeply held, safe, cared for, nourished and supported especially during this magical time.
You only give birth once and I am here to make sure you journey into the portal of birth in feeling at peace in in your power.

"A Grandmothers Touch"
Held by the elements of earth, air, fire, water + spirit receive high touch bespoke holistic birth support in a grounded 1-1 continuum throughout your pregnancy, birth + postpartum. I will walk with you from 38 weeks until 6 weeks postpartum. Cross the threshold of transformational birth in power and peace and exhale into a loving sanctuary of divine postpartum nourishment. Incorporating womb tending, pelvic support, shamanic journeying, photography, organic ancestral foods, placenta support, nurturing touch + wild herbalism.
What's included:
✹ To ensure you feel comfortable I always offer a 30 min free chat via zoom to begin our journey, getting to know eachother + connecting in.
✹ Continuous support begins from 27 weeks into pregnancy and continues until 40 days postpartum where I am available in your pocket via VN 3 days a week for support and guidance if you want that extra care + support so you can exhale into pregnancy + feel truly held every step of the way
✹ You will receive 3 x Prenatal appointments where we will meet, discuss + delve deep into all things birth - This may include your choices + options for birth, exploring unwinding birth fears, physiological birth, the practicals, what to expect, emotional + spiritual support and the what if's, whilst tending to your body and setting you up to experience an incredible birth + postpartum. This is the time where you prepare for birth and create an individualised birth + postpartum plan. During these sessions I will also get to know you and your partner even more and find out about your birth intentions. These sessions are aprx 2-3 hours long. One will be online and the other two in person.
✹ An optional drum journey to meet your baby.
✹ An optional fire ceremony to release fears and set intentions for birth + mothering
✹ I go on Call for you at 38 weeks and will be on call until your baby arrives and be with you during you birth, bringing homeopathy and herbalism. This support also encompasses if you were to choose to transfer to hospital.
✹ I will offer you support after birth to tend to your babies sacred placenta included prints, smoothies + lotus birth.
✹ If you wish, I will take photos + videos during pregnancy, birth + postpartum so you have special memories to savour, keep + lovingly look back on.
✹You will receive a copy of my sell out eBook "The Ultimate Freebirth Preparation Manual" which is jam packed with over 60+ pages of wisdom to support you to prepare.
✹ Hire of my Eco Birth Pool is included which has held many many labouring women including myself, you would just need to buy the pool liner + hose!
✹ Optional drummingwork during birth
✹ You will know in pregnancy + birth that without doubt that you have someone by your side that you know and trust. You’ll have the confidence + nourishment of touch + continuity of care. My calming presence will be with you in birth from when you need me, during the emergence of your baby and until you are cosied up in bed with food + drinks with your baby in arms, feeding at the breast.
✹ You will receive 2 x in person postnatal visits within the first two weeks. These will be 2-3hrs each where I can lovingly tend to your body, bring delicious nutritious snacks, warm soothing elixirs, healing baths + herbs whilst offering breastfeeding support + space to share and integrate your birth experience. I form a part of "the village" that we will have put in place before birth to ensure you are lovingly held in your postpartum bubble nourished + supported.
✹ The continuity of 40 days support postpartum to ensure you step into motherhood reassured + confident.
✹ There is so much more nourishment that I bring (I don't want to ruin all the beautiful surprises)

Sometimes we just need to know we have someone at the end of the phone we trust that we can call upon for support. Whether it's birth preparation, voice note support or over the phone support during labour, postpartum or birth debriefing - I've got you covered - I also offer bespoke 1-1 support for you and your family throughout the continuum of birth so you can receive that hand held guidance whilst still having your space.

The difference between a Doula and a Birthkeeper
This difference is subtle but in my opinion a Birthkeeper is trained in some areas of holistic midwifery and although not practising midwifery skills or replacing a medical midwife, a birthkeeper has a depth of knowledge to bring an offer.
A Birthkeeper calls you forward to take radical responsibility for your birth, calling you forward into your power. Whilst she fiercely protects the birth space she is not a "birth bouncer", she will communicate to you like a loving sister who has your best intentions at heart – she will walk with you to the depths of yourself to meet the edges and places which are overlooked which may be standing between you and your incredible birth. Similarly to a Doula birthkeeper is too...
