I met Nova Skye thirty-five years ago, back when I was plucking basslines with my band at a spot called The Native Son, a soulful little joint on Kinsman Road in Cleveland, Ohio. The club is long gone now, but that night? It still plays in my mind like a favorite record.
Nova walked in with three of her girls, all of them full of light and laughter. During our intermission, I sat beside her and asked if I could buy her a drink. She flashed a Kool-Aid smile and said, “Yeah—you can buy my girls and me one.” I laughed. Before I could say another word, she leaned in and asked, “So… what’s up with the drummer? Is he single?”
That moment told me everything I needed to know: she was bold, charming, loved her friends, and unapologetically herself. Most people spend a lifetime trying to master authenticity. Nova came here with it. Before she left, she gave me her number and told me to call her with the band’s schedule. “We’ll be there,” she said. And they were. Gig after gig. That was the beginning of a friendship I didn’t even know I needed.
What started as small talk turned into a rare kind of bond—real trust, real time, real truth. We’ve seen each other through life’s highs and heartbreaks. We’ve offered advice, celebrated birthdays, grieved the loss of loved ones, and yes—we’ve even stood at each other’s weddings. The kind of friendship we built? It’s rare. Unshakable. Rooted in respect.
Even back then, I knew she was ahead of her time. I had a whole decade on her, but somehow, she spoke as if she’d already lived twice. She could hold court on anything—love, faith, family, dreams, pain, purpose. Whatever the topic, she could speak on it with heart, humor, and insight. She didn’t just join the conversation—she elevated it.
And when it came to the Lord? Man… she knew Him. Not just verses. Not just tradition. She had a way of explaining things that made me sit back and think, “Did I miss something in church?” At first, I thought she might be trying to impress me. Nah. That was just her. That is her.
Transparent. Anointed. Grounded. She’d tell you the truth about herself before anyone else could. She never claimed to be perfect—just grateful to be chosen. Even at a young age, she knew she had a purpose to fulfill. And I’ve watched her do just that. Sometimes with power. Sometimes through pain. But always with passion. I’ve seen her pray through it. Cry through it. And now? She writes through it.

Behind the Book: The Sovereign Secret Series
The Sovereign Secret series was born from a season of deep introspection, faith, and creative surrender. Long before it reached readers, writing became my refuge—a place where emotion, prayer, and imagination met on the page.
In 2004, during one of the most challenging seasons of my life, I began writing what would later become The Sovereign Secret. Life felt unsettled, and my spirit reflected that same sense of fragmentation. Writing became my place of stillness—a way to process, reflect, and breathe. I began writing as a way to piece together my life and examine it—honestly and without distraction. It became a space where I could lay every thought, every question, and every emotion before God. And somewhere in that process, I remember saying, “Maybe, just maybe, someone out there could relate to this topsy-turvy journey.”
Because all that glitters isn’t gold, and just because a story doesn’t begin in a straight, pristine line doesn’t mean it won’t end in something meaningful. The Sovereign Secret is not a religious story—it’s a real one. A journey shaped by love, choices, family, friendships, and consequences. It explores life as it is—unfiltered, complicated, and at times uncomfortable.
And through it all, even when it doesn’t look like it on the surface, there is something greater at work. Not controlling every step, but present, steady, and sovereign over what unfolds. What I didn’t know then was that writing would become my lifeline—my therapy, and ultimately, my breakthrough.
From 2004 to 2008, I poured myself into this series and found joy in the process. By 2008, the manuscript was complete. Yet even with the story finished, the world wouldn’t see it just yet. The Sovereign Secret sat quietly on a flash drive for nearly two decades. In 2024, I received a book deal that looked like the breakthrough I had been waiting for. At the time, the series was called Potato Chip Pimp—a playful one-line reference from the book that unintentionally suggested a completely different genre. When that deal fell apart, I came to understand it not as a setback, but as God’s sovereignty at work. It taught me more than I expected about publishing, patience, and purpose.
What came next wasn’t more story, but a deeper understanding of the business behind it—and I pursued it relentlessly. As a one-woman operation, I immersed myself in every part of the process, learning, refining, and building as I went. It was overwhelming at times, but necessary—because I wasn’t just preparing to release books, I was preparing to build something that would last.
This journey has required countless hours, deep faith, and real grit. I have navigated steep learning curves, profound personal loss, and in May 2025, a necessary pause for brain surgery due to two previous aneurysms—something that required timely intervention—all while continuing to move forward. I still work a primary job while growing my company, trusting God as I prepare the table He instructed me to set.
Emerald Jewel Publishing was founded out of obedience and necessity—not convenience. It is a brand rooted in truth, dignity, legacy, and faith.
The Sovereign Secret is a work of fiction shaped by emotional truth and spiritual reflection. It is a story of self-discovery, resilience, love, friendship, faith, and divine timing. I choose to separate these names not to divide myself, but to honor the reader. Each genre carries a different responsibility, tone, and level of trust. One invites you into story. The other invites you into testimony.
Both voices flow from the same heart, the same faith, and the same calling—to tell the truth, preserve legacy, and create space for reflection.
