Well, the course is designed for sole traders, but the basic principles of accounting are the same for every legal structure. So if your business is a partnership or company and you still don't know the first thing about accounting, you're welcome to join us and learn some stuff.

However, partnership, company and trust accounting is different to sole trader accounting in certain ways, and none of our courses teach those differences, nor will questions about them be answered.

Sole trader is a legal structure for a business. If you're self-employed/a micro-business owner, and you didn't set up a legal partnership, company or trust to operate your business, then you're a sole trader.

Why it matters is, how you do your accounting, and how you lodge your tax returns, is different based on whether your business is a sole trader, partnership, company or trust.

That being said, in this course you will learn how to create a Chart of Accounts (what you'll need before you can start doing your accounting), and you'll mock up your own financial statements (so you know what the financial statements you produce by doing your accounting are all about).

One thing we'd like to point out here, that many sole traders don't realise is, accounting is not filling out your tax return! Accounting is for you, the business owner, to understand your business from a financial perspective, and use that understanding to make better business decisions. A tax return is just a form you fill out for the grubby-ment to let them know how much of your hard-earned money they can get their grubby mitts on this year.
