The quickest, easiest way to bring stability, connection with God, and purpose to your life.
Thank you God, for another day of life. I love you with all that I am.
My life is yours.
_____
I offer you everything I think, feel and do today as a gift from you and to you.
_____
I unite myself with you, Jesus, on the cross and with the prayers and good work of all your children.
May I live this day with you in love.
The back story, the strategy, the how. Watch here or read below.
The seeds for this powerful prayer were placed in my heart early in life when my house was filled with song. Every Sunday, my dad led our congregation as a cantor and he'd warm up his voice with the hymns all morning long.
Music came often. We had 1970's speakers in every room happily humming with Christian songs - which my absorbent childlike mind effortlessly memorized. Often, I would wake with a song in my head or the meaning of a verse stuck in my brain.
But I hadn't heard the phrase "morning offering" until I was much older.
I must have come across the term during my years of theological studies or missionary work but the time that stands out in my mind when on a plane ride home from Nashville. That month, I had become very interested in the prayers of the saints and started looking them up and copying things down on little pieces of paper for me to pocket or read here and there around the house.
As luck would have it, the man sitting next to me on that flight had recently become a widower. Since I had a post-it note on my head that said, "I'm a sucker for any conversation, " he told me all about her. :) I was intrigued that his tone was light and excited - as if he had discovered a hidden treasure map and wanted to share the news with me. Evidently, he had greater insight into his wife after she passed away. He gave me a printed sheet loaded with text that his late bride had used many times a day for prayer. Ironically, it had many of the prayers that I had been printing for myself.
And on that paper was...you guessed it... the morning offering...
...what is now, the most important part of my day.
Already, you are starting with gratitude. You are leading with a free gift of love. The path for what you are doing is mission.
You have united yourself to Christ. What more is needed? Everything you do for the day is with God! You don't need to prove anything or impress anyone, you are working with and for all of God's people. Heaven is for you.
You start off with a win. Turning to God and living in love is the most important thing. You are already doing that. Everything else is detail.
It helps to have something prepared ahead of time. It can be a pre written prayer by a saint or a friend, something you compose, a framework, a song that you love. Or, you can determine to be spontaneous but have the concept in your mind.
Create a prompt so you will remember to make the morning offer. Maybe it is a cross you place by your bedside, a notification on your phone, a sticky note on the bathroom door, or even a window curtain opened slightly.
Step 1 - Wake up.
Step 2 - Do something physical to designate this as your moment of prayer (kneel, arms open, hold crucifix).
Step 3 - Thank God for the day- for life.
Step 4 - Offer everything you will do today for Him.
Step 5 - Unite yourself to him and his love
