Significant health challenges have helped me view the world a bit differently than before. I see more beauty in the details of everyday life that I want to share through my jewelry. When I'm inspired by something, I take a picture and let it inform my next piece.
My career as an artist started in my 50’s. I was a teacher with Minneapolis Public Schools and well into my teaching career when I started making jewelry as a hobby. At the beginning of the 2021 school year, I survived a ruptured brain aneurysm, 2 separate surgeries, and weeks in the hospital. Resulting cognitive deficiencies ended my teaching career.
During my recovery, I’ve continued making jewelry. It is calming, meditative, and therapeutic. With dogged persistence I have taught myself complicated beading and jewelry making techniques as well as sought out professionals to guide and teach me. Surviving a brain aneurysm has led me to enjoy a deeply satisfying career replicating the beauty I see around me and sewing it into the jewelry I make for others.
