About us
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs.
But who are we?
Mt Gravatt Toastmasters is a vibrant community of unique individuals with a shared goal for self-improvement. We provide a positive and supportive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop and practice communication and leadership skills.
Our members span all age groups and come from all walks of life. From beginners to experienced speakers, we even have members who've represented the club in Area, Division and District competitions and held District-level leadership roles.
What this means for you, is that our award-winning team can support you wherever you are on your public speaking journey.

Our club meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 6.45pm for a 7.00pm start.
It’s free for guests to attend meetings. You won’t be asked to do a speech, although there are a couple of opportunities to participate if you wish. You're also welcome to buy dinner at the Bowls Club at your own cost if you wish. See FAQs for more details.

We meet at the Mount Gravatt Bowls Club, 1873 Logan Road, Upper Mount Gravatt.
There is plenty of free off-street parking at the Bowls Club. Simply come in through the main door and look for our sign (usually the large function room on the right). If you need further directions once inside, a friendly member of the Bowls Club staff will guide you to our meeting.

FAQs
When you choose to become a member, you will be asked to complete an Application Form and pay $154 to our Treasurer. The $154 payment is made up of $55 joining fee and $99 for a semi-annual membership. After that, you will continue to pay semi-annual dues of $99 every six months. *The amount charged will be calculated based on the month you join. You will receive a full detailed breakdown of the payment structure with your membership form.
Members must be at least 18 years of age. Those who seek to join must complete the Application form and pay the joining fee plus the first six-month’s dues (‘Semi-Annuals’). Members of the Club must vote to accept those who seek membership, before their membership is confirmed.
No two meetings are exactly the same. We can guarantee that every meeting is supportive and fun surrounded by likeminded people on the pursuit of self improvement! Attend as a guest and see for yourself!
There are no specific requirements. However you are likely to need a pen or pencil, and it may be useful to bring a notebook. Once you become a member, it is important that you bring your name badge to each meeting. Regarding dress code, there is no need for a suit or tie, but ‘stubbie shorts, singlet and thongs’ would be equally out-of-place.
Our Club recommends that new members will present their first speech within 3 or 4 meetings after joining, but this is ultimately your choice. After you have joined the Club, and received your New Member’s Pathway information, you will be encouraged, by our Vice President Education (VPE) or by your Mentor to take on ‘minor’ roles such as Word Master, Grunt Master, Timer or Round Robin Master. These activities provide you with the opportunity to gain experience and confidence, and are likely to assist you in preparing your first speech. New members usually complete their first ten speaking assignments in approximately 18 to 24 months, but there is considerable variation in this, and no predetermined schedule.
Yes. This is not uncommon. You can also transfer your membership from one club to another. Some clubs charge a transfer fee (our Club charges $15 for members transferring from another Club). Members who transfer maintain their membership of Toastmasters International.
